Lots of people are going green these days. This means changing their daily lifestyle habits to ones that are more environmentally-conscious, natural, and health-oriented. These habits include green housecleaning methods as well. Green cleaning is becoming a popular new trend as people search for healthier, chemical-free ways to live. Many are turning to non toxic cleaning products for a healthy home.
If you have children and pets, especially, you will know that small bodies are more sensitive and susceptible to toxins in the environment, and you’ll want to create the safest environment for them to live in. But while we must consider our children, we must also consider ourselves. In order to properly care for those who depend on us, it’s important for us to take good care of ourselves as well, and this, as with anything, always starts at home. When we’re using eco-friendly cleaners, we can feel good about our clean house at the end of the day, knowing we made the best possible choices for ourselves, our children, and our planet.
It’s amazing to think that, just a few generations ago, green cleaning and natural cleaning products meant absolutely nothing to people. That’s because our grandparents and their parents used green, eco-friendly cleaners all the time – they were the norm, and therefore didn’t need any catchy terms to define them. Chemical cleaners were virtually unknown at that time, as were environmentally-related diseases, illnesses, and sensitivities. Today, it’s as if we’re going backwards in time, returning to the natural cleaning ingredients that our ancestors used. We’re remembering just how potent these natural cleaners are, and how well they work – and all of this makes us wonder why we ever thought we needed chemical cleaners in the first place. We’re also very fortunate at this time because there are so many new green cleaning products and non-toxic housecleaning detergents on the market now that were not available just a few years ago. As more people become environmentally aware, this list of healthy cleaning products is only going to keep growing. But, if you prefer the do-it-yourself or DIY approach to cleaning products, as many do these days, there are countless natural DIY cleaner recipes to be found on the web. There are simple, natural cleaning ingredients that our grandparents used - like baking soda, vinegar, lemon juice, and castile soap to name a few, that can be carefully combined in varying quantities to create all-natural home cleaners. You can even add a drop of rosemary, tea tree, lavender, or peppermint essential oil to help freshen the air and anything you are cleaning. These homemade cleaners work amazingly well when it comes to cleaning just about anything in the home, including floors, walls, bathtubs, sinks, toilets, ovens, tiles, refrigerators, and even laundry. You can even come up with a few natural, non-toxic home cleaners of your own. Making your own cleaners at home can be a really fun endeavour and something the kids might even want to help with.
