Whether you're looking to build a vacation cabin or a small house to add to your property, Rich's Portable Cabins has you covered. The cabin building company is located in North Powder, Oregon and they mainly build small houses and cabins on foundations and trailers. They feature tiny houses which have become a very popular option for those who want to have a home but can't afford a high mortgage. Another great thing about the small house designs built on trailers is that they can be moved anywhere. This way you could either move the small house around on your property or move it to a completely new property without a hassle. The cost of the small house designs from the cabin building company will all depend on the size and features of the individual cabins, but you can always request an estimate for a project you're considering. To get a rough idea of how much tiny houses on wheels cost to build you can multiply the length of your small house design by 2,000 for a fully finished home, or 1,000 for a shell. Keep in mind these prices reflect the build itself and not the trailer which can cost about a quarter of the cost of the project overall. So if you have a 20-foot long tiny house that you want to be completely finished and ready to live in, you'd be looking at approximately $40,000 for the home itself. For just the shell it would be approximately $20,000.
This 8-foot wide push out cabin was built to be a demonstration to show how an 8-foot wide small house design can expand to be a 13 foot wide home on the inside. With this design there aren't any buttons, you just need to use your strength and hopefully the help of a friend or family member. It only takes 15 minutes to make the home larger, and when you're ready to pack up and go, it takes about the same amount of time to put it back to its 8-foot width again to be safe for the road. With many push-out components, there tend to be different levels to the floor, but with this small house design, the floors are flush with each other. There is a loft area which can be used as a sleeping area or a storage space and can be accessed by a ladder. A bathroom is included in the small house design which makes it even more livable, and there's also a fully functional kitchen with a gas or electric fridge and even an all in one laundry machine. Another great feature of this cabin is the lovely little porch on the front of the house that will go with the house wherever it goes. It's always nice to have some outdoor space especially when you're living in a confined space.
The cabin is built using typical two by four wall construction, and they add in R-13 wall insulation, R-19 floor insulation and R-21 ceiling insulation to keep it nice and warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The kits also include all of the double pane low energy efficient windows as well which helps to keep the warm or cool air in. If you're considering living in a cabin or small house design, it's also important to look into winterizing your tiny house so that none of your pipes freeze or get backed up. If you have gas, you'll also need to insulate the tank and the lines as well. Enjoy looking through the photos of this great small house design and other cabin designs from Rich's Portable Cabins.***
