The secret to fresh-smelling towels

Smelling your towels after a good wash should be a pleasant experience, but so often it's not. Towels can get musty and stinky after a while, and the scent can be hard to remove. Musty, smelly towels can be a thing of the past in your home though, and you only need natural cleaners to do it. Fresh towels are one of life's little pleasures. Taking them out of the dryer, nice and warm and then holding them up to your nose to get a good whiff. Keep your towels smelling fresh with these cleaning tips from Northern Belle Diaries from Lisette who found a great way to get fresh smelling towels every time. Usually, the musty odour on your towels can be caused by a build up of laundry detergent on the towels or letting your towels stay too moist too long can be one of the culprits as well. To prevent these odours, you can make sure that you're hanging your towel up in a place where it can dry out completely, or you can even throw your towels in the dryer after you use them to dry off. You can also wash them more frequently as well, and always make sure they're not left on the floor when they're wet.

Fabric softener can also be a culprit because it leaves a residue on towels that will make them less able to absorb water. So as Lisette says, when you wash the towels, the laundry detergent can't clean them because it can't get through the fabric softener build up on the towels. Hard water minerals can also cause a build up on your towels and in the same way, will prevent the laundry detergent from working as well as it could. So if you have some really stinky towels, try out these natural cleaners to give your towels a deep clean which will wash away all of the residue and build up on them. Just use a quarter of a cup of baking soda, 1 cup of white distilled vinegar and some hot water. This will be perfectly fine to use in a high-efficiency washer as well. So for this load of towels, instead of laundry detergent, use the baking soda to wash the towels pouring it right into the drum of your machine before the towels go in. Start out the cycle with hot water, then when the machine comes to the rinse cycle, use your white distilled vinegar instead of the fabric softener. When the washing cycle is complete, you can then put the towels into the dryer.

How it works is the baking soda will deodorize and wash away the dirt and grease on the towels. Then, the vinegar will soften the mineral deposits in water which will work much like a fabric softener. If you still like that fabric softener scent on your towels, just throw in a regular dryer sheet with the towels and just wash them as usual with your regular laundry detergent in between these cleansing cycles. If your towels start to have a hint of mildew on them, just run them through with the baking soda and white vinegar to take care of the mildew and build up on them. You can also try out the vinegar rinse on your hair, as it actually works similarly to remove residue and build up from our hair and make it softer and smoother. It's so amazing all of the things natural cleaners can do. Try out this great cleaning trick and be sure to share it with your friends so they can see how well it works too.***
