8 Really Gross Mistakes You Make in the Bathroom

Okay, it’s something we don’t really want to talk about – our bathroom habits! But did you know what you don’t know could actually make you sick? Here are 8 really gross mistakes we all tend to make in the bathroom – simply because we just don’t know any better. As they say, forewarned is forearmed! Study up on these widely-made errors and make your bathroom habits healthier ones.

First of all, do you shut the lid on the toilet when you flush? Apparently, sixty per cent of respondents to a recent Scrubbing Bubbles survey said they do not! Okay, well the truth of the matter is – if we don’t shut the lid when we flush, the contents of the toilet can literally be sprayed throughout the entire room – up to six feet in every direction. Yuck! The world renowned germ doctor, Charles Gerba, proved this way back in a 1975 study, and the same results have been proven again and again. So, please, shut the lid when you flush. Think of your toiletries. Think of your toothbrush!

And speaking of toothbrushes, where do you store yours? When I was a kid, I used to hang mine by the sink, which I thought was a very good idea. Then one day when I went to brush, I discovered a very gross, long squirmy creature crawling through my toothbrush! It was so disgusting I threw it out on the spot and was so traumatized, I never wanted to brush my teeth again. Since then, I’ve manually dried off my brush after using it, given it a thorough cleaning once a week, and I have stored it in a safe, dry place – far away from the sink and the toilet!
